To accomplish ecosystem restoration work through a cooperative network of community volunteers who engage in hands-on field and educational projects. This project is able to develop a series of measurable goals based on the set of 10 WS Challenge goals.

NORTHWEST CONNECTIONS
Whitebark Pine Restoration - Mission Mountains Wilderness
Mission Mountains Wilderness Area, Flathead National Forest (MT)
To organize volunteers to assess, reforest and collect seed from Whitebark Pine stands burned in the Mission Mountains Wilderness in 2003.  This effort is part of a multi-year strategy to restore Whitebark Pine in the Wilderness.           

CLOUDPEAK CHAPTER, WILDERNESS WATCH
Monitoring of stream health in the Cloud Peak Wilderness
Cloud Peak Wilderness Area, Bighorn National Forest (WY)
To complete the second phase of a project to monitor stream health and to obtain baseline values for each of the streams within the Cloud Peak Wilderness of Wyoming, surveying the streams not reached in the first phase.  Volunteers transport field meters in the Wilderness, do on-site measurements, and collect samples for later chemical and macroinvertebrate analysis by contract laboratories.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN FIELD INSTITUTE
2004 South Colony Lakes Basin Restoration Project
Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Area, San Isabel National Forest (CO)
To complete critical restoration work in South Colony Lakes Basin and on the surrounding peaks, one of the most popular and spectacular alpine areas in the Southern Rockies and a centerpiece of the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness.  The project will also advance public involvement in the stewardship of the area, and disseminate restoration strategies and project results that RMFI has found (and will find) to be effective.

COLORADO FOURTEENERS INITIATIVE
CFI Wilderness Stewardship Challenge
Multiple Wilderness Areas, Pike-San Isabel, Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre & Gunnison National Forests (CO)
To complete extensive trail restoration through stabilization, revegetation, and closing of social trails in Wilderness Areas most heavily impacted by recreational overuse.

FOREST LEGACY CENTER
Restoring Our Wilderness Heritage                      
Teton, Gros Ventre and Bridger Wilderness Areas, Bridger-Teton National Forest (WY)
To create a partnership between the Forest Legacy Center, the Murie Center, and the Bridger-Teton National Forest to offer graduate students opportunities to accomplish the restoration and monitoring work needed to bring all three wilderness areas up to a base-level program standard.  Local community events will celebrate the region’s wilderness heritage and invite people to participate directly in current and future wilderness stewardship initiatives.

Wellsville, Mt. Naomi Wilderness Areas, Wasatch-Cache National Forest (UT)
To increase community awareness about local Widerness Areas and encourage appropriate behavior while recreating in them as well as increase noxious weed awareness and strategic mechanical treatment in the local Wilderness Areas, Dyer's Woad.

Hells Canyon and Eagle Cap Wilderness Weed Survey and Control
Hells Canyon and Eagle Cap Wilderness Areas, Wallowa-Whitman National Forest (OR)
To reduce the threat of weeds to Hells Canyon Wilderness and Eagle Cap Wilderness areas, in partnership with the Tri-County Cooperative Weed Management Area, through inventory, treatment with integrated pest management, monitoring and restoration.
